Great News!
Hello everyone,
I am very honored to received notice that I will be creating a sand painting in the Rotunda at The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC this coming March 3rd 2012. Please save the date as its sure to be spectacular. I will have more details as they get worked out but please come to DC if at all possible and plan ahead.
Meanwhile back on the homefront…
Some of you may have seen one of the many news articles the past few days including The NY Times and Sunday Daily News with an article about the tickets that all the performers are getting in Washington Square Park.
Here are some links:
After over 2 years of working in the parks and creating nearly 500 sand paintings in New York alone, our Mayor Bloomberg and Parks Commissioner have decided that the work I do, and the other performers in the park including musicians, acrobats, puppeteers, singers, dancers, etc cannot be allowed to accept money as donations for what we do, nor may we be within 50 ft of a monument which pretty much excludes 95% of Washington Square Park.
I urge you to voice your opinion on this matter to Mayor Bloomberg and Parks Commissioner Benepe
I thank you all for the concern and support in advance and will let you know that I have acquired legal council on the matter. If you have been following my work, you know that the tickets will not deter me from continuing my work.
As winter weather comes I will be working on a new body of work, painting in oils, as well as creating pieces in sand on wooden panel. Below are a few paintings that are available from my personal collection. If you have an interest in any of these paintings or the new work please contact me to discuss.
I also have a great selection of prints and my book “Painting New York” available.
Thanks to everyone and have a wonderful Holiday Season!
Joe
